Product Description
Custom Anodized Aluminum 6061 CNC Machined Camera Housing

Ever opened a weatherproof camera housing after two years outdoors and found the internals spotless? That's not luck—it's the anodize doing its job. While many engineers specify stainless steel for outdoor electronics enclosures due to corrosion resistance, 6061 with Type III hard anodize offers superior value with 3x lower material cost and better machinability for camera housings without structural loads.

The critical challenge with camera housings is the sealing surface, requiring flatness within 0.05mm around the gasket groove. Our machining process includes a light stress-relief pass before final finishing to prevent warpage, especially on housings over 150mm. We account for the 25-50 micron anodize layer per side in tolerance calculations for precise lens mount bore fits.

Our 4-axis machining process completes top face, gasket groove, mounting flange, and cable gland hole in one setup, with a single flip for back cover features. This two-setup approach maintains tight datum relationships. Prototype lead time is 3-5 days, with production runs of 500 units completed in 7-10 days.

Key Features
  • Hard Anodize Type III (25-50μm): Rockwell 60+ surface hardness withstands 1000+ hours salt spray testing without pitting
  • IP67 Sealing Surface: Gasket groove flatness within 0.03mm across full sealing perimeter ensures leak-proof performance
  • One-Piece CNC Machined Body: Solid 6061 billet construction eliminates seams, welds, and die-cast porosity
  • Integrated Mounting Features: Cable gland threads, sun shield bracket, and alignment pins machined in same setup for perfect alignment
  • Thermal Management: Natural anodized finish provides 20-30% better heat radiation than painted or powder-coated alternatives

  • Oil and Gas: Explosion-proof camera enclosure bodies with anodize barrier protection against H2S environments
Why Choose Sinbo Precision
  • 50+ CNC centers with 4-axis capability: Complete camera housings in maximum two setups versus 4-5 setups with 3-axis machines
  • In-house anodizing line: Full process control from start to finish eliminates outsourcing delays and quality issues
  • 34,000 sqm factory, 632 employees: Capacity for 10-piece prototypes and 5,000-piece annual reorders without compromise
  • ISO 9001 + IATF 16949 dual certification: Automotive-grade quality systems applied to camera housing manufacturing
  • Design review before cutting: Proactive identification of tolerance stack issues, wall thickness adjustments, and sealing surface problems
  • 3-day prototype turnaround: Fast first article delivery for fit, seal, and thermal performance testing before production commitment
Manufacturing Process
  1. Drawing Review & DFM Check: Verification of wall thickness (minimum 1.5mm for rigidity), gasket groove dimensions, anodize thickness compensation, and cable gland thread callouts
  2. Material Procurement: 6061-T6 round tube or plate with mill test certificates traceable to heat lot
  3. CNC Machining (4-axis): Rough and finish machining in one setup for body, gasket groove, and mounting features, with single flip for back-side features
  4. Deburring & Surface Prep: Hand deburring of all edges and bead blasting to Ra 1.6 for consistent anodize finish appearance
  5. Hard Anodize (Type III): In-house rack plating with 25-50μm coating thickness, sealed in hot nickel acetate for maximum corrosion resistance
  6. Final QC & Packaging: CMM inspection of sealing flatness, gasket groove dimensions, and lens mount bore, with individual bagging and desiccant
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get the anodize in a custom color, not just black?
Yes—we offer Type III hard anodize in black, natural silver, and can match most RAL colors. Custom colors add 1-2 days and a small lot charge. Note that darker colors absorb more heat, which may affect camera temperature.
What wall thickness do you recommend for a 200mm housing?
Minimum 2.5mm for structural integrity. While 1.5mm works for small housings under 100mm, larger housings require thicker walls to prevent machining flex that compromises flatness. Consider 3mm for additional thermal mass.
Do you provide the gasket and glass window, or just the housing?
We supply only the machined housing. However, we precisely machine gasket grooves and glass pockets to your seal supplier's specifications for perfect component integration.
Can you add a sun shield or visor as part of the machining?
Absolutely. We regularly machine integrated sun shields, rain hoods, and IR illuminator brackets from the same billet. The only limitation is your tolerance budget for setup count.
How does the anodize hold up in direct sunlight for years?
Type III hard anodize on 6061 does not fade like paint. The aluminum oxide coating is already fully oxidized, making UV exposure inconsequential. Physical surface wear will occur long before any UV degradation.
What's the difference between your anodize and what a local job shop sends out?
We operate our own anodize line with complete control over racking, bath chemistry, and inspection. Unlike job shops that outsource plating, we maintain precision control over gasket groove tolerances and coating quality.
